RICHARD LEIS OBITUARY

LAWTON, Okla. - Funeral mass for Richard Kevin Leis, 51, of Lawton will be at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Rev. James D.M. Stafford, pastor, officiating. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., on Friday, June 2, 2006 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial service with interment will be held on Friday, June 9, 2006 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Mr. Leis passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 28, 2006 on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Kevin was born on November 23, 1954 in Rapid City, South Dakota to Francis and Patricia Leis. He graduated from Central High School, Rapid City in 1973 where he lettered in football, basketball, and track. He was named top all around athlete his senior year. He played football for two years at SD School of Mines and Tech., attended SD State University and graduated with distinction from the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center with a degree in Physical Therapy in 1979 and also became a certified athletic trainer. Kevin married Karen Tolbert in Oklahoma City on May 12, 1979. They moved to Lawton, Oklahoma in 1980 where Kevin established his physical therapy practice. Beginning in 1980, he volunteered as athletic trainer for Lawton High School and was later hired to work with all Lawton high schools. Kevin was a devoted husband and loving father who dedicated his free time to his family. A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Kevin loved the Wichita Mountains and the Black Hills of South Dakota and enjoyed running, competitive cycling, kayaking and more recently, golfing with his wife. He was also a passionate supporter of O.U. Athletics. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, of the home, his beloved daughters, Sara and Amy, of Oklahoma City, his brothers, Gary and his wife, Ruth, of Las Vegas, NV; Kelly and his wife, Connie, of Rapid City, South Dakota, Shawn, of Las Vegas, NV, his sister, Geralynn Peterson and her husband, James, of Grand Forks, North Dakota; father in law, Weldon Tolbert, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, brother in law, Mike Tolbert, and his wife, Terry, of Tuttle, Oklahoma; sister in law, Margie Tolbert, of Blanchard, Oklahoma; and his much loved nieces and nephews, Jessica, Tracy, Cori, Sean, Ian, Cara, Katie, and Brittany. He will be remembered by his many friends and patients in the Lawton Community.
