Dale A. Hurtig (06/30/1955 - 07/31/2020)

Dale A. Hurtig, 65, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2020 at the Monument Health Hospice House following a long battle with cancer.

He was born on June 30, 1955 to Clyde and Rose Mary (Kmeicik) Hurtig in Smyrna, Tennessee, where his dad was stationed at the local AFB. The Hurtig family was transferred to Ellsworth AFB near Rapid City around 1960 where Dale grew up and lived the rest of his life. He worked as a landscaper and eventually started his own landscaping business. In his later years he worked as a security guard at Central High School and enjoyed visiting and joking with the high school students and staff. Dale was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed making predator calls and fishing lures.

Dale met Nancy Evans in college at SDSU. Dale and Nancy married on December 27, 1974, in Rapid City.

Dale loved playing poker, and had a great group of people he played poker with regularly. He also enjoyed bargain hunting at the local thrift shops looking for things he could resell.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Rapid City, children: Corey (Jordin) Hurtig, Christie Hurtig and Caitlyn (Andrew) Nissen all of Rapid City, his grandchildren: Rylee, Ethan, Si, Rheanna and Roland and his step father, Darrel Oliver, West Point, NE. He is also survived by his siblings: Steven Oliver, Cleveland, TX, Michael Oliver, San Antonio, TX, Linda Plett, Rapid City, Tina Smith, Harrison, MI and Terry Oliver, Ft. Meyers FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial has been established in his honor.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 10:30am at the Hills of Grace Fellowship at 330 E. Anamosa St.
