Vaun Craig Hewlett was born to Henry and Robin (Kayser) Hewlett in Pierre, SD on June 9, 1955. He spent his early years in Pierre, SD. He grew up in Bismarck and Dickinson, ND. He graduated from Rapid City Central High School in Rapid City, SD, then attended National College of Business in Rapid City, SD. He then returned to Pierre, SD in 1974, to work with his father, Henry Hewlett, for almost 40 years.

Vaun married his soul-mate, Katrina Kristensen, on June 12, 1982, in Pierre, SD. Vaun and Katrina raised their family of seven children in Pierre. Vaun loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed holidays, family gatherings, kids' sporting events, camping, fishing and working outside in his yard. Above all else, spending time with his grandchildren was his favorite.
Vaun was always a hard working type. He was especially proud of the fact that he held the record of being the youngest licensed Journeyman Plumber in the state of SD, at the age of 19. He continued in that profession for nearly 40 years. In addition to his plumbing career, he also worked at Lutheran Memorial Church helping with the maintenance and set up work where he had been a member since 1981 and participated in Men in Mission. He was also a member of the Contractor's Association.

Vaun is survived by his wife, Katrina; his children: Kyle (Dawn) Hewlett, Watertown, SD; Sherre (Lyn) Hodny, Fargo, ND; Michael Hewlett, Watertown, SD; Mollee (Todd) Madden, Pierre, SD; Kaydee (Steve) Withers, Pierre, SD; Kallee (Michael) Rydland, Sioux Falls, SD and Kris (Taylor Kapsch) Hewlett, Rapid City, SD.
