Carol Elaine Herndon Greco

Carol Elaine Herndon Greco, 58, of Lead, South Dakota, died Tuesday, September 24th in Fort Worth, Texas.
She was born to mother Lois Herndon and late father Malcolm Herndon on April 16, 1955, in Denver, Colorado.
Carol graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1973 and received a BA in Physical Education with an emphasis in dance from South Dakota State University in 1977. She married her loving husband James Greco in 1981 and they lived together in Lead.
Carol began her career as a PE teacher, and after taking time off to have her son, Tony, she returned to college receiving a BA in elementary education in 1991.
She immediately went to work for the Lead-Deadwood school district as a second grade teacher where she worked for 22 years until her death. Carol was passionate about teaching her children and every student she taught was made the better for her passion.
As a result of her diligence and dedication to her class, Carol won the first annual Lead-Deadwood teacher of the year award. Carol was also passionate about teaching to the future and taught other teachers technology in education many of the summers she was not teaching her children.
Carol was an active member in the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lead. She was also active in Delta Kappa Gamma, a society for women educators.
Carol's family was dear to her. She is survived by her husband, Jim of Lead, son Tony, daughter-in-law Allison, and grandson Connor of Rapid City, mother Lois Herndon of Rapid City, sisters Glenda Miller of Rapid City and Gayle (Ken) McGuire of Ft. Worth Texas and brother David Herndon of Eagle Mt., Utah. Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter and very much loved her entire family.
Memorial services by the Trinity United Methodist Church will be held at the Lead-Deadwood High School Gymnasium on Friday, October 4 at 3:00 pm.
